What is the NISM VA exam?
The NISM Series V-A: Mutual Fund Distributors Certification Examination is conducted by the National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM) under SEBI oversight. Clearing it is mandatory before you can apply for an AMFI Registration Number (ARN) and legally distribute mutual fund products in India. The exam covers 100 MCQs, carries no negative marking, and requires a passing score of 50%.
What this practice test covers
- Concept, structure, and classification of mutual funds
- Legal and regulatory framework — SEBI regulations and investor rights
- NAV computation, expense ratios, and fund pricing mechanics
- Investor services — KYC, SIP/STP/SWP, NFO process, and transactions
- Distribution practices, commissions, and distributor responsibilities
- Taxation of mutual fund investments and capital gains
- Risk, return, and fund performance evaluation
Passing the NISM VA exam
You need 50% (50 out of 100 marks) to pass the NISM VA exam, and there is no negative marking, so it pays to attempt every question. The exam is concept-driven — questions test your understanding of fund mechanics, investor servicing, and distribution regulations, not rote memorisation. High-weightage areas include investor services, fund selection, and the regulatory framework.
Why practice with mock tests
Reading the workbook tells you what you know; a timed mock test tells you what you can actually answer under pressure. Full-length mocks surface the topics you keep getting wrong, build exam-day stamina, and remove surprises on the real test. The NISM VA exam is straightforward to clear with the right preparation — mock practice is the fastest way to get there.
